I used to ask friends to recommend a book, I don’t do that anymore. When it comes to literature it is practically impossible to guess what a person likes, it’s really hard to find people who like the same books that you do. Here I decided to list books that I read and found that they were sooo not worth reading. I don’t mean to offend anyone, I just wonder how many people see things the way I do.
1. The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan. When I started reading this book my first thoughts were “Man that’s a lot of word “anus”!” Seriously, anus everywhere: soft anus, small anus, wet anus, this word is almost on every page. One of the chapters is actually called “Fuckkilleat” or something. There were times when I though “Why am I reading this? What’s wrong with me?” Anyway, this book definitely wasn’t worth reading for me.
2. One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I read about one third of the book. I tried to finish it, I honestly tried but I simply can’t read a book where I find every character um… not very smart. One of them eats the ground, other one sleeps with her cousin (or was he a brother? I don’t remember), another one goes insane, a little crippled girl is forced to become a prostitute, a pedophile describes his “feelings” toward a little girl as “love”, he gets her pregnant and she dies. I guess Gabriel Garcia Marquez wanted to show that life is chaos, I don’t know, I was too disgusted to keep reading.
3. The Vampire Diaries by Lisa Jane Smith. The show is very interesting, but the books are too weak. I read a couple of volumes just because I was bored, and those books only increased my boredom. Lisa Jane Smith had a great idea, and I am glad The Vampire Diaries’ writers picked it up and made a great show.
4. The Gun Seller by Hugh Laurie. To begin with: the book is NOT bad. He obviously knows how to write a book. I absolutely love Hugh Laurie, but it turns out he is a better actor that he is a writer. The book is fine, the problem is: my expectations were too high. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish it.
5. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I know it’s a classic book, but all it teaches is: don’t trust your fist opinion, or don’t judge a book by its cover. First of all: it’s such an obvious thing, second of all: the author doesn’t even dig deep into that. And all this book describes is one simple and incredibly boring “problem”, I mean even my boring life is more interesting. I read the whole thing, it helped me a lot with my insomnia (not joking).
So I think these books are not worth reading… What do you think? Personally I like and recommend: Men Like Gods by H. G. Wells, The Man Who laughs by Hugo, Harry Potter by J. Rowling, Montezuma’s Daughter by H. R. Haggard, The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough, The Godfather by Mario Puzo. I hope you like them too, after all, reading a book is much better than any other activity.
